LAW FIRMS
How would your firm change if you choose action over reaction?

Law firms are built on a foundation of reaction. Rather than actively building a strategic direction based on the firm’s unique skills, talents, strengths, and values, many firms look to established firms and do as they do…passively and reactively. In order to maximize your firm’s people, profit, and performance potential, it’s vital to choose to operate with your particular strengths at the forefront.
We help law firms build integrated, sustainable, profitable futures by:
- Motivating and inspiring people through the use of story
- Developing individual awareness, relational skills, and accountability
- Implementing industry-specific, fiscally-prudent strategies
- Boosting emotional intelligence and other transferrable skills
Consulting
We bring an industry-wide approach to address your unique challenges. Our first step is to understand your company culture and examine any relevant trends, benchmarks, and best practices. We also bring financial expertise to scrutinize your numbers and identify opportunities to improve your bottom line.
Coaching
We are a thought partner and truth-teller for your people’s development. We help seasoned and up-and-coming leaders develop awareness and relational skills, including accountability, change leadership, self-awareness, communication, and conflict management skills.
Training
We train leaders how to achieve the firm’s goals through experiential and practical programs. In a safe, practice-and-play environment, we take real-world scenarios and build your team’s confidence and acumen before they test their new skills in your firm. Homework and accountability exercises reinforce the learning, and coaching can be added to deepen the experience.
Facilitation
Leadership challenges are typically people challenges and are often attributed to a few difficult people. The Pareto principle suggests that 80% of your energy goes into 20% of the people to maximize results. However, when that 80% is spent wrangling, cajoling, or otherwise attending to poor performers or squeaky wheels, the firm suffers. Hiring a professional facilitator can minimize distractions, tangents, and outbursts to ensure respectful communication, tactful input, and clear takeaways from your important meetings and retreats.
Education
Through our sister company, Legal Leadership Institute, individuals can enhance their leadership skills with online classes, like Elevate Your Professional Presence and Fundamentals of Coaching, or join our popular expert-led peer forum, Leaders’ Lab, where we discuss challenges, strategies, and solutions surrounding a particular topic.
Testimonials
“You planted a number of invaluable “seeds” with our group that I hope will germinate and help us as we move to our new office space and beyond.” —Kathleen Anderson
“Judy helped us stop and think about how our values play a role in the daily stress of personal relationships, as well as conflicts in our workplace.” —Judy Taylor
“Judy facilitated two strategic planning sessions I attended. The first one was for the association to which I belong. Judy did such a great job, we brought her to our office to facilitate one for our team. As a facilitator, Judy has an exceptional ability to cut through the “fluff” and bring the group back together so we can focus on the real issues.” —Lisa Miner
CASE STUDY
Nesso designed and delivered a year-long teambuilding program that integrated individual coaching to guide individuals and groups through progressive skill development. Coaching sessions complemented the training programs with an emphasis on team formation, collaboration, and conflict management. We introduced the CoreStrengths suite of emotional intelligence tools to explore communication and conflict skills as the teams were formed. We examined individual strengths and overdone strengths and how they may cause conflict and miscommunication, and had the teams build the strengths portrait they wanted to obtain success. Our team-building sessions were facilitated in one-hour increments every other month, beginning with CoreStrengths in the forming and storming phases of their development and progressing to change management, delegation skills, group evaluation, goal setting, and team agreements for the norming and performing stages.
Simultaneously, individuals worked with a coach to address specific concerns about conflict management, team development, and change management. Group coaching explored the stages of team development, including Forming, Storming, Norming, and Performing, as well as the common obstacles encountered at each stage. Coaching created opportunities for both leaders and staff to practice skills to anticipate, navigate, and mitigate the impact of interpersonal and professional stress through this transition.
